Yesterday I went on one of Busch Gardens Tampa's great tours! We decided to do the Endangered Species Tour because of the addition of the Cheetahs while their new home is being prepared in the front of the park, Cheetah Run.
Our tour started off by checking in at the new Serengeti Outpost Center located near Rhino Rally in Nairobi. Check in went smoothly and we were off to the loading dock. On the way to the loading dock, our guide David told us about the endangered species and how they work to keep all the animals comfortable in the Edge of Africa.
Once we boarded the truck, we headed out to the veldt and headed towards some very hungry giraffes. We got to not only feed the giraffes lettuce but pet them and take pictures with them too. They are very friendly especially because when they see the truck they know its lettuce time!
After we visit the giraffes, we stop and visit a Black Rhino. While you in the enclosure there is a ditch between you too although very small so you can get super close to this magnificent animal.
Lastly on the tour and the best part in my opinion was seeing the Cheetahs. While the Cheetahs home,Cheetah Run, is being prepared in the front park near the upcoming Cheetah Hunt coaster, they are being currently in a backstage holding area. We got to get very close to the cheetahs with only a chain link fence and chain link barrier between you and these beautiful cats.
We got to visit a trio of younger cheetahs this day and they were relaxing in the shade. Once they heard their names they got up and then when the raw meat came out they ran. They keepers told us a lot about them and the sounds they make including a bird call type sound. We got to watch them get some tasty raw meat that was feed to them with tongs through the fence. They each have individual personalities and are currently learning how to sprint for the upcoming Cheetah Run.
Overall, the tour was fantastic and I highly recommended doing it. It departs each day at 12:45 but be sure to book ahead because it sells out fast. You can book ahead by clicking here or calling 1-888-800-5447. Be sure to take a look at some photos and a video of the tour below.
